****COVID 19 RESPONSE & PLAN: A letter from Dr. Joyce****
We closed our doors to routine care on March 17, 2020 as recommended by the WDA in order to flatten
the curve for COVID-19. Over the past 5 weeks, we opened only for limited emergency care.
The WDA, in response to the new Safer-At-Home order, released updated recommendations and
guidelines which will allow us to open our doors beginning April 27, 2020.
Ahead of our re-opening, we wanted to communicate how and why we are proceeding as well as explain
the extra precautions we are taking.
As I have been taking care of emergencies, it is becoming abundantly clear that our emergency rate is
increasing significantly. The frequency and seriousness of these emergencies makes me uncomfortable.
A simple procedure not treated today can become a complex (and painful) case in a short time. I believe
we need to be available to our patients for emergency, urgent, and routine care. The need for care will
continue to increase as optional dental treatments become critical over time.
This does not mean it will be “business as usual.” The health and safety of patients and our staff is of
highest importance to us; thus, in accordance with WDA guidelines, we will be taking the following
precautions and procedures:
● Increased PPE for staff including Level 3 masks, shields, and/or N95s
● Replaced each operatory with new HEPA air filters
● Perform air sanitizing in between our properly spaced patients
● New Check-In procedures: To maintain social distance, we ask that you call when you arrive at
our parking lot. If we are ready, we will have you come right in. If not, we will call you when there
is space in the waiting room or when a room is ready for you
Finally, for the time being, we ask that you do not bring family members with you if they do not have an
appointment. While we realize this may be difficult given the circumstances, it is a necessary precaution
we have to take and we hope to be able to lift this soon.
If you have any other concerns, feel free to reach out to us at (414) 228-3000. I am more than happy to
speak with any of my patients. I am thinking of you all during this difficult time. Stay healthy!
Sincerely,
Kristen Joyce, DDS
